Medical Parasitology

Short description of the course:

Topics addressed in the course include the biology and morphology along with the physiology of medically relevant parasite species residing in tissues, organs and systems of the human body. The current problems of medical parasitology, environmental factors of invasion and dispersion of human parasites, opportunistic species causing disease in immunocompromised persons, pathogenesis and course of parasitic diseases in immunocompetent persons and in immunosuppressed conditions, as well as epidemiology of parasitic infections in Poland and worldwide, taking into account the geographical range of their occurrence will be presented. Parasitological diagnostics and the proper interpretation of diagnostic test results in accordance with current Polish recommendations will also be discussed.
