Pathogenesis of Parasitic Diseases
Short course description (lecture):
From parasite invasion to parasitic disease: parasite-host interactions at the molecular, organismal, and inter-species levels. Molecular pathogenicity markers of parasitic protozoa and helminths. Molecular mechanisms of vector-mediated transmission of blood parasites. Epidemiological pattern of genetically conditioned specific response against parasites with different effects of the course of invasion in the host. Strategies to prevent the spread of parasitic diseases.
Parasitic diseases:
– Tropical diseases: malaria, Trypanosoms, blood flukes, filariasis;
– soil-borne helminthiases: roundworms, hookworms, trichomoniasis;
– Parasitic protozoa: Cryptosporidium parveum,Giardia intestinalis, Entamoeba sp. Naegleria sp., Acanthamoeba sp.
– Zoonoses: Toxoplasma gondii, tapeworms, echinococcosis, Trichinella ,dog roundworm.
Short course description (faculty):
The aim of the course is a multidirectional approach to the diagnosis of parasitic and zoonotic diseases, which will allow students to develop analytical and development-oriented thinking skills that prepare them to use innovative solutions in their professional specialties.
During practical classes, the student will solve diagnostic problems, based on a variety of research tools, taking into account new technologies. He will verify their usefulness according to population, environmental and economic factors necessary for understanding issues and problems of the surrounding world. .
Student will be able to use the acquired skills in many areas of his/her activity, regardless of the field of study undertaken/continued.
